Version 8.0.9 (February 2024):

RAD7 device information including the calibration date and firmware version is no longer at risk of being lost when a RAD7 data file is modified and resaved.

The timestamps in Temperature Data Files are now presumed to use the same time zone as the radon data with which the temperature data is associated. Previously these timestamps were interpreted as using the user’s local time zone, and this could cause incompatibilities with radon data obtained from outside the user’s location.

Version 8.0.8 (January 2024):

In the RAD8 Chart Recorder, if the Chart Configuration involves a Radon in Water accessory, the configuration is no longer reverted when a new data point is recorded.

When connecting to a DRYSTIK ADS-3, if the instrument has an unspecified date of manufacture, Capture no longer reports an unexpected error.

Notifications now appear in the Graph Window when there are problems with one or more of a RAD8’s calibrated sensitivity figures.

Network-based RAD8 connections now work more reliably. If a device has been added to Capture via network connection and communication attempts fail repeatedly, Capture no longer encounters an unexpected error.

Protections are now in place to prevent Chart Recorder status updates and logging operations from being interrupted by data download operations and other communications.

RAD8 Data Summary Reports and printed graph images no longer report RAD7-oriented properties including Battery Voltage, High Voltage, High Voltage Duty Cycle, and Leakage Current.

When shifting the dates in a RAD8 data file, if the time zone in the file differs from the user’s local time zone, the shifted dates are now reported accurately.

Certain notifications now appear in non-modal dialog boxes, preventing overlapping windows from becoming unresponsive on Microsoft Windows.

Version 8.0.7 (January 2024):

When resampling RAD8 data files, the appropriate time zone is now applied to the resulting synthesized data cycles, causing the graph data points to appear in the correct locations along the timeline.

When a RAD8 is set to a time zone that differs from the local time zone, RAD8 graph and Chart Recorder images now contain the correct labels on the timeline.

Capture no longer encounters an unexpected error when parsing incomplete RAD8 status information.

RAD8 humidity correction functionality has been temporarily disabled, pending the finalization of a new humidity correction algorithm.

In the Main Window toolbar, the Create RAD8 Group menu command now works properly.

When parsing RAD8 data, Capture now handles problems with corrupt or incomplete cycle records more gracefully.

Version 8.0.6 (December 2023):

In the Main Window toolbar, the Create RAD8 Group menu command caused an unexpected error, so it has been disabled until the problem can be resolved.

Version 8.0.5 (November 2023):

Capture can now open RAD8 data files that consist of only a single aborted test cycle and no cycle summary information.

Capture can now launch successfully when a firewall is preventing certain types of network communications. Previously this situation caused the program to display an error message and stall while launching.

Version 8.0.4 (October 2023):

Capture now connects to devices more reliably on Windows systems. This addresses a problem in which a serial connection could encounter a break condition at high baud rates, and Capture responded by closing the serial port.

RAD8 data downloads are no longer at risk of being interrupted. Previously a bug caused incoming RAD8 spectrum data to be misinterpreted, ending the download prematurely.

The Log Window no longer causes slowdowns on Windows when large amounts of device data is being transferred.

Version 8.0.3 (October 2023):

When program updating is disabled, an error no longer occurs when attempting to connect to Capture Cloud.

Version 8.0.2 (September 2023):

In the RAD8 Chart Recorder, the checkbox for displaying the Thoron graph line is now disabled when thoron visibility is disabled in the current RAD8 protocol.

The RAD8 status information panel in the Chart Recorder now displays the ambient temperature in addition to the sample path temperature. The barometric pressure is also included.

The date and time labels in the Graph Window now display RAD8 dates with respect to the time zone in which the data was recorded. Previously the values in the labels were shifted to reflect any differences between the time zone in which the data was recorded versus the time zone of the computer viewing the data, and this could be misleading.

The Chart Recorder timescale now accounts for the differences between the RAD8 clock and the computer’s clock, as may occur when a RAD8 is being monitored remotely from a location in a different time zone. The rightmost edge of the timescale represents the RAD8’s current clock reading in its designated time zone.

Radon Inspection reports now properly indicate whether the radon monitor was a RAD7 or a RAD8. Inspection reports previously referred to the radon monitor as a RAD7, regardless of the device that performed the test. Hardware model information is now labeled more clearly.

It is now possible to open a RAD8 or RAD7 data file containing only a single data point in a Graph Window.

Time zones are now reported in the Statistics Panel of the RAD8 Graph Window, under the Entire Data Range category.

Capture now behaves more predictably when the Chart Recorder fails to obtain the status of a RAD8.

Version 8.0.1 (July 2023):

In the Download RAD8 Data panel, the Date Range controls now encompass the entire specified date range. This fixes a bug in which data from the current day did not appear unless the ending date was set to the following day.

When a RAD8 test is stopped, an error no longer occurs when Capture retrieves the device’s status.

Capture no longer misinterprets RAD8 data content if the user’s computer is set to display numbers using decimal commas.

The barometric pressure is now displayed in the Point Nearest to Cursor section of the RAD8 Graph Window’s Statistics panel.

When the RAD8 Chart Recorder refreshes, the graph line visibility settings no longer reset to the default values.

Capture now applies a scale factor to the thoron sensitivity when the RAD8 Pump Mode is set to Standard (as opposed to On), to account for the increased thoron decay that occurs in the sampling path as a result of the reduction in the pump’s duty cycle.

Cosmetic improvements have been made to the status display in the RAD8 Chart Recorder.

Version 8.0 (July 2023):

It is now possible for Capture to detect RAD8s connected to the computer with a USB cable. The Download RAD8 Data panel can be used to browse the test data on the instrument, and the Chart Recorder panel can be used to monitor the status of the RAD8 in real time.

If a RAD8 record has an elevated but still reasonable relative humidity value, a warning no longer appears and the radon graph line no longer appears in red. This is because the RAD8 is technically capable of automatically correcting for the effects of humidity upon the sensitivity of the instrument.

Version 6.2.7 (February 2024):

RAD7 device information including the calibration date and firmware version is no longer at risk of being lost when a RAD7 data file is modified and resaved.

The timestamps in Temperature Data Files are now presumed to use the same time zone as the radon data with which the temperature data is associated. Previously these timestamps were interpreted as using the user’s local time zone, and this could cause incompatibilities with radon data obtained from outside the user’s location.

Version 6.2.6 (January 2024):

Event-Driven Actions can now be imported and exported using commands in the File Menu. This makes it possible to share Event-Driven Actions between different users and different computers.

When a Capture Cloud connection error occurs, Capture now attempts to reconnect to Capture Cloud automatically. Five reconnection attempts are made, at 20-second intervals.

If the Chart Recorder is logging data to Capture Cloud and the connection to Capture Cloud is lost, the Logging status indicator light now turns red, and the Logging Settings Window now displays an indeterminate icon in the Log to Capture Cloud checkbox.

The default colors for the Humidity and Temperature graph lines have been updated to match the colors used on the RAD8 touchscreen. The Temperature graph line is now orange, and the humidity graph line is now blue.

The Graph Line Color controls in the Preferences Window have been redesigned to improve dependability. Each graph line color is now displayed in a list, and a set of RGB sliders is now used in place of a floating Color Picker palette.

The Preferences Window is now called the Settings Window, and on macOS this window is now accessed using a command in the Application menu.

The RADLINK Operations window now provides the option to install RADLINK 313 or RADLINK 314. These two versions of RADLINK respectively enable and disable a RAD7 feature that displays a notification when the instrument is due for calibration.

When program updates are available, Capture now provides more details about each version. If a major version update is available, a banner at the top of the update notification window advertises the latest major version.

A bug affecting the display of TCP connection information in the Log Window has been fixed.

Version 6.2.5 (June 2023):

The performance of the graph rendering system has been significantly improved. The benefits are most evident when navigating large data sets consisting of hundreds of records and numerous data runs.

The parsing of incoming data from RAD7s has been optimized. This addresses a problem in which Capture became noticeably slower during the transmission of large record sets.

Unsupported menubar commands are no longer visible. This resolves a problem that affected the Windows version of Capture.

If an attempt is made to open a radon data file with a clearly incorrect file name extension (such as .jpg or .docx), Capture no longer tries to parse the data. This resolves a problem that was introduced in the previous version of Capture.

In the Event-Driven Actions panel, a warning now appears if a Relay value is set outside the acceptable range of 0 to 65535.

In the Combining RAD7 Data Files window, if an unsupported data file is selected, an application error no longer occurs.

Version 6.2.4 (April 2023):

Capture now scans for connected RAD7s more reliably. This resolves a bug that was introduced in version 6.2.3, which mainly affected the Windows version of Capture.

The Tools menu no longer contains unsupported menu commands.

If the user attempts to open an unsupported data file, Capture now provides a clear message indicating that the file can not be opened with this version of Capture.

Version 6.2.3 (April 2023):

A new Zoom To Selection command is now available in the Graph Window’s View Menu. This command zooms the graph view to show only the region between the two selection bars.

Capture now reports an accurate error message when the user attempts to open a radon data file that is not readable.

If a Capture Cloud data transfer operation takes a long time to complete, Capture no longer times out as easily. This change is intended to prevent Capture Cloud from disconnecting when the application is busy performing other tasks.

When renaming a data file, spaces are now preserved. This resolves a bug that was introduced in a recent release.

In the Event-Driven Actions editing panel, the Event configuration controls are now arranged more intuitively.

Data file combining and resampling operations are now completed more rapidly under certain circumstances.

The accuracy of Chinese language translations has been improved.

Version 6.2.2 (December 2022):

The CAPTURE Chart Recorder now works correctly when a RAD7’s clock is ahead of the computer clock and the latest data points appear to have come from the near future. This can happen if Daylight Savings Time has ended and the RAD7 clock has not yet been adjusted. Previously the chart image could fail to load, and in some cases the plotter arms drew lines connecting to the top left corner of the chart panel.

A bug preventing RAD7s from being renamed has been fixed. It is once again possible to successfully rename a RAD7 using the Device Options menu in the Main Window toolbar.

CAPTURE’s preferences file is now saved to disk when exiting the Preferences Window, and when exiting the Event-Driven Actions panel. This ensures that the user’s preferred settings are preserved in the event that the program quits unexpectedly.

Event-Driven Actions are no longer permitted to be executed when CAPTURE is in the process of updating the RADLINK software on a RAD7.

In the Run Parameters Window, it is no longer possible to set the Radon Measurement Method to RAD H2O unless each of the selected records were recorded in one of the water modes (either Wat-40 or Wat-250).

If RAD7 data was recorded in Wat-40 or Wat-250 mode and the Run Parameters Window is used to specify that the Radon Measurement Method is either Radon in Air, RAD AQUA, or Water Probe, the resulting Radon in Air and Radon in Water values are now calculated based on the RAD7’s Sniff sensitivity, rather than the Wat sensitivity.

When CAPTURE calculates radon in water concentrations involving the Big Bottle System, it now uses a more accurate set of numerical inputs representing the latest analysis of desiccant containers. Based on recent measurements, the Small Drying Tube is now understood to have an internal air volume of 15.0 ml (versus 23.7 ml previously). The Laboratory Drying Unit is now understood to have an internal air volume of 458 ml (versus 400 ml previously).

The spectrum histogram at the top right corner of the Graph Window now displays columns with consistent widths (3 pixels on standard displays; 6 pixels on HiDPI/Retina displays). Previously some histogram columns appeared wider than others.

If the RAD7 clock is set to a time that is wildly incorrect, the Chart Recorder now reports a helpful error message instead of repeatedly attempting to retrieve data in an endless loop.

Version 6.2.1 (June 2022):

When CAPTURE detects that a RAD7 contains an outdated version of its RADLINK system software, it now prompts the user to install an update. The update can be installed without physically pressing buttons on the RAD7. As of June 2022 CAPTURE installs RADLINK version 313 on all eligible RAD7s. This version of RADLINK notifies the user when the instrument is overdue for calibration.

In the Main Window’s Event-Driven Actions panel, if a specific concentration unit is specified under the Events tab, it will no longer revert back to the pCi/L unit when CAPTURE is exited and reopened. This addresses a bug that was introduced in CAPTURE 6.1 when Event-Driven Actions were first established.

When CAPTURE detects that a RAD7 is overdue for calibration, it now presets a modal dialog box prompting the user to return the RAD7 to DURRIDGE for calibration. Previously this reminder was easier to overlook.

When a modal dialog box is visible, background processes are now suspended more effectively, and in an equal manner on both Windows and macOS.

After the Shift Dates in RAD7 Data File operation is completed, a confirmation dialog now appears allowing the user to view or graph the file with the shifted dates.

Version 6.2.0 (February 2022):

Annotations can now be added to RAD7 data graphs. Annotations are text notes that can be pinned to particular data points, or to a specified date on the graph timeline. Annotations may be added using either a File Menu command or a contextual menu command in the Graph Window.

It is now possible for an Event-Driven Action to send an email containing extensive details about the status of the RAD7 device(s) associated with the action.

Improvements have been made to the user interface for configuring Event-Driven Actions that send emails.

It is now possible to duplicate Event-Driven Actions and their component Events and Actions, using Duplicate buttons located at the bottom of the corresponding list boxes.

A bug affecting the calculation of smoothed graph line values has been fixed.

When CAPTURE fails to detect any devices, the resulting notification message is no longer cropped on low-resolution displays.

The sample RAD7 data files that are included with CAPTURE have been updated.

The Event-Driven Actions menubar command in the Tools menu now brings the main program window to the front if needed.

In the Run Parameters Window, the list of Big Bottle configuration presets has been simplified, and outdated presets have been removed.

The text in the Event-Driven Actions panel and other recently added user interface elements now appears in either English or Chinese, depending on the user’s operating system settings.

Version 6.1.1 (November 2021):

When using the Save to CAPTURE CLOUD menu command or an equivalent method to upload a RAD7 data file to CAPTURE CLOUD, if the server already contains a RAD7 data set whose date range partially or fully overlaps with the data being uploaded, CAPTURE now displays a warning that the existing data set will be replaced, and prompts the user to confirm that they wish to overwrite the existing data.

When the RAD7 Chart Recorder logs data to CAPTURE CLOUD, a data set on the CAPTURE CLOUD server is now updated each time the RAD7 records a new data point. Previously an entirely separate copy of the data set was uploaded to the server each time a data point was recorded. This change prevents redundant data sets from proliferating on the CAPTURE CLOUD server, and it reduces the amount of server space required when logging data.

If a CAPTURE CLOUD upload involving a large file size takes an extended period of time but is ultimately successful, an error message no longer reports that the process has timed out. This problem previously affected the Windows version of CAPTURE.

The CAPTURE CLOUD login system now provides more descriptive error messages if a problem occurs while resetting a user’s password.

It is now possible to specify whether certain serial ports should be skipped when scanning for connected devices. This is controlled using the Security panel in the Preferences Window.

Refinements have been made to the algorithm used by the Chart Recorder to predict the radon and thoron concentrations of pending data points. Concentration estimates are now produced only when a sufficient number of counts have been recorded.

When opening a graph containing only one data point, CAPTURE now reports an error message.

It is now possible to specify whether a warning dialog box appears when the connection to a RAD7 or DRYSTIK is unexpectedly lost. This is done using the Alerts panel in the Preferences Window.

When the Log Window is open and a device is selected in the Main Window, the device’s connection interface is now selected in the appropriate list box. This makes it easier to monitor the device’s communications.

CAPTURE no longer performs synchronous communication actions with devices. As a result the program’s performance is smother and the user interface remains responsive when devices are connecting and disconnecting, and when download operations are initiated.

When a cumulative spectrum histogram is displayed in the Chart Recorder Spectrum Window, the histogram now represents only the current RAD7 run. Previously this spectrum erroneously represented data from an earlier run, if one or more earlier data runs were present in the Chart Recorder panel.

Printer data exported from CAPTURE now includes degree symbols and plus-minus signs to indicate temperatures and concentration uncertainties, respectively. This output now more closely matches the content on the RAD7’s thermal printer paper.

When using the Save As menu command in the Graph Window, the specified file name is now assigned to the file’s internal data, such that the name appears in the RAD7 Data Parameters window.

When using the RADLINK Operations Window to install RADLINK, the default Firmware Version selection is now 3.1a (RADLINK 311).

When the RADLINK Installation Window is closed, CAPTURE now asks the user whether they wish to rescan for connected devices. Previously rescanning occurred automatically.

Version 6.1 (June 2021):

CAPTURE 6.1 introduces a powerful new feature called Event-Driven Actions. This feature allows users to configure CAPTURE to perform specified actions when certain conditions are met. For example, if a RAD7 reports a radon concentration greater than a particular value, CAPTURE can play an alarm sound and send an email notifying the user. There are 11 categories of conditions that may be evaluated, and 13 categories of actions that may be performed in response, allowing a wide variety of custom configurable behaviors. The use of Event-Driven actions is restricted to CAPTURE CLOUD subscribers.

CAPTURE CLOUD now requires users to be running the latest version of CAPTURE. This requirement helps prevent connectivity problems by ensuring that the server and client are using the same communication protocol.

When logging Chart Recorder data to disk or to CAPTURE CLOUD, there is now an option to log only the latest data run. Previously the entire data set was logged, and this resulted in larger file sizes.

The RAD7 Clock Setup dialog box now contains a checkbox for setting the RAD7 clock to the current date and time. This dialog box is accessible via a menu in the Main Window’s Chart Recorder panel.

When an unexpected error occurs, clicking the “Do not show this message during this session” checkbox now prevents all variations of the error message in question from appearing during the remainder of the application session.

When performing download operations and issuing RAD7 commands, warning messages are no longer added to the Application Log section of the Log Window.

When special invisible characters are issued issued to a device, icons are now added to the application log entries to indicate which characters were sent.

If a toolbar command is used to remove a RAD7 or other device while it is in the process of connecting, the buttons on the toolbar no longer remain disabled.

Version 6.0.4 (April 2021):

When logging RAD7 Chart Recorder data, it is now possible to control the frequency at which the logged data is updated. The default choice is Automatic, which preserves the existing behavior in which data is logged whenever the RAD7 completes a cycle. The other options range from every 10 minutes to once per day.

In the CAPTURE CLOUD Browser, when a data file that has been shared with the user is selected, if the item contains zero data tags, an error no longer occurs.

When an unexpected error occurs, the error message that appears now contains additional details about the exact part of the program in which the problem occurred.

Version 6.0.3 (February 2021):

In the CAPTURE CLOUD Browser, when multiple pages of search results are available, the most recent results now appear on the first page by default. This behavior can be changed by clicking on the column headings. Results may be presorted by Name, Description, or Ending Date, in ascending or descending order, based on the selected column and sorting direction.

When an unexpected application error occurs, CAPTURE now gives the user the option to email a detailed error report to DURRIDGE.

When issuing Chart Recorder menu commands, communication is now performed in an asynchronous manner, allowing the application user interface to remain responsive while a result is pending. Dialog boxes now appear when appropriate to report operation results.

The process of scanning for connected RAD7 and DRYSTIK devices is now completed more rapidly.

When connecting to a device or issuing device commands via a serial port or network connection, if the expected response fails to arrive, CAPTURE now reports the problem in either English or Chinese, as appropriate. Previously this information was only provided in English.

In the list of serial ports that appears in the Log Window, each list item now includes the name of the RAD7 or DRYSTIK device connected to the corresponding serial port, if applicable.

In the CAPTURE CLOUD Browser, if a RAD7 data file containing valid thoron data is selected, the thoron data is now labeled in the graph legend. When such a file is opened in a separate Graph Window, the thoron data line now appears in the Graph Window by default.

When a DRYSTIK is selected in the Main Window, the device’s connection status and serial port are now listed at the bottom of the window. Previously this only occurred when a RAD7 was selected.

Certain diagnostic error messages are now added to the CAPTURE application log instead of being displayed in a modal dialog box.

The Graph Statistics panel now provides a notification if the Run and Cycle numbers for a data point are unavailable due to missing printer output information.

When logging Chart Recorder data to CAPTURE CLOUD, if one or more existing supersets of the data being logged already exist on the CAPTURE CLOUD server, the existing data is no longer overwritten by the subset of data from the Chart Recorder.

When CAPTURE obtains the status of a RAD7, it no longer misinterprets expressions of undefined radon concentrations in excess of 1 million as termination characters signaling the conclusion of a response.

If the computer has zero serial ports and an attempt is made to connect to a RAD7 or DRYSTIK manually, an error message will no longer appear.

If a RAD7’s print format is set to Medium and Thoron reporting has been enabled in the RAD7’s Setup menu, CAPTURE now correctly parses the device’s printer output. Previously the program was unable to parse printer output under these conditions.

The RAD7 Chart Recorder can now log spectrum data even if the RAD7’s clock is reporting a time that differs from the computer’s clock by up to 24 hours. This makes it possible to log data from a RAD7 located in a different time zone. Previously no deviation from the user’s own time zone was permitted, and if the RAD7’s clock was deemed incorrect the logging process failed without providing an adequate notification. Warnings are now provided if the RAD7’s clock is off by over 24 hours.

If a RAD7’s calibration date is erroneously set to a date from the future, CAPTURE no longer reports the connection as “unverified”. The connection can now be established successfully, and two-way communication can now occur.

When the Chart Recorder’s Test Menu is used to make a RAD7 enter Sleep mode, a notification now appears in the status panel indicating that the RAD7 is sleeping, and CAPTURE will no longer poll the device at regular intervals. (Polling the RAD7 would cause it to wake up.)

When identifying and parsing file name extensions, CAPTURE no longer acknowledges extensions containing spaces. As a result, certain files are no longer named incorrectly after being uploaded to CAPTURE CLOUD.

Version 6.0.2 (January 2021):

It is now possible to assign data tags using the RAD7 Data Parameters dialog box. This dialog box appears when downloading data from a RAD7, and it is also accessible from within the Graph Window. Previously data tags were only able to be edited using the CAPTURE CLOUD Browser, after the data had already been uploaded.

The Chart Recorder can now be configured to assign data tags to RAD7 data being logged to CAPTURE CLOUD.

When data is saved to CAPTURE CLOUD and subsequently revealed in the CAPTURE CLOUD Browser, the correct item is now highlighted in the list of search results. Previously if two or more items shared the same name and description and had partially overlapping date ranges, CAPTURE was liable to select the wrong item.

In the Chart Recorder, the Thoron checkbox is now enabled when the selected RAD7’s Thoron reporting option is set to On.

In the Chart Recorder, adding a RAD7 Group no longer causes CAPTURE to crash if one of the devices in the RAD7 Group does not contain any data.

When saving data from the Chart Recorder to CAPTURE CLOUD, the suggested file name no longer changes automatically as each cycle is completed and the latest data is merged with existing data.

When a search result is selected in the CAPTURE CLOUD Browser, if the selected RAD7 data contains records in which the RAD7’s Thoron option was enabled, a thoron graph line will now appear in the graph preview panel.

It is now possible to configure Chart Recorder logging settings even if a RAD7 has not yet completed its first cycle.

When the Data Erase command is issued to remove all the data on a RAD7, the Chart Recorder content is now reset.

Version 6.0.1 (December 2020):

It is now possible to save Search Presets in CAPTURE CLOUD. Search Presets are comprised of specific combinations of search parameters that can be recalled at any time. Search Presets may consist of any of the criteria used in a normal search, including Data Tags.

CAPTURE CLOUD search results can now be reordered using improved sorting controls.

CAPTURE CLOUD can now display multiple pages of search results. Each page may be limited to 25, 50, 100, 150, or 200 items, based on the user’s preference.

Listings of CAPTURE CLOUD search results now contain icons identifying items that are disabled or a subset of an existing item.

Reliability has improved when rapidly cycling through multiple items in a list of CAPTURE CLOUD search results.

The Starting Date and Ending Date picker controls in the CAPTURE CLOUD Browser now use more intuitive and sophisticated controls native to the operating system.

Chart Recorder data can now be uploaded to CAPTURE CLOUD using the Save to CAPTURE CLOUD command in the File Menu.

CAPTURE no longer reports an Illegal Cast Exception when exporting a Radon Inspection Report. This resolves a bug that was introduced in CAPTURE 6.0.

The graph image that appears in a Radon Inspection Report no longer includes run heading boxes. This resolves a bug that was introduced in CAPTURE 6.0.

Minor formatting improvements have been made to Radon Inspection Reports.

In a Radon Inspection report, the Start Time is now estimated with improved accuracy.

Version 6.0 (November 2020):

CAPTURE now supports CAPTURE CLOUD, a subscription-based service that offers secure storage for RAD7 data files and makes it easy to organize, analyze, and share data with colleagues. CAPTURE CLOUD users can browse RAD7 data files and issue queries to search for record sets by several criteria such as date range, organization, RAD7 device, and others. Users can be easily added or deleted at any time. (For more information on CAPTURE CLOUD, please see https://durridge.com/software/capture-cloud/)

When RAD7 data is opened in a Graph Window and errors are detected, CAPTURE no longer presents the list of errors in a modal window. Instead the number of errors is reported at the top right corner of the Graph Window, along with an icon indicating the severity of the errors. A new “Details” button provides access to the list of errors. Each error is now explained in greater detail, and the error listing now includes the date and time of the associated RAD7 record. Each error is now marked with an icon indicating its severity.

If RAD7 data contains lines that can not be parsed and the data is saved, information about the error(s) is now included in the R7CDT data content. Preserving the information in this way makes it possible for the errors to be reported the next time the data is opened, even though the associated data lines themselves have been removed.

When reporting on Live Time errors, CAPTURE now groups each error into a single report entry. The accompanying text explains that the error does not necessarily indicate a hardware malfunction.

When viewing the list of RAD7 data errors, warnings about insufficient RAD7 battery voltage now appear consistently. Previously such warnings only appeared if the RAD7 record set was being loaded from data in the program’s memory, as opposed to a file from disk.

When a RAD7 record set contains unverified thoron data, the Thoron Info button now presents a clearer explanation and a more consistent set of options.

The Tools menu now contains a Downsample RAD7 Data Files command, which is used for merging records within a RAD7 Data File. This feature can be used to increase the effective cycle time, which reduces the uncertainty of each data point.

The Main Window’s toolbar now contains a Help button, which provides access to the CAPTURE user’s manual, as well as CAPTURE Cloud resources.

The user interface for downloading RAD7 data has been revised and is more robust and user-friendly. There are no longer separate buttons for choosing a download destination and initiating a download; instead the user is prompted to select a download destination when the download begins.

When a single Radon in Water or Thoron in Water data point is selected, the reported uncertainty of the selection average now matches the calculated uncertainty of the data point itself.

When averaging a set of RAD7 records, if all of the records came from the same RAD7, the hardware information is now preserved.

The Chart Recorder Status Bar now reports the time remaining in a cycle more accurately. Previously the reported time remaining was liable to be incorrect if the RAD7’s clock differed from the computer’s clock by more than a minute.

The Chart Recorder’s status bar now correctly displays the selected RAD7’s current relative humidity reading. This corrects a bug that was introduced in a previous release.

The layout and functionality of the Chart Recorder Logging Settings window have been improved.

The Chart Recorder can now load spectrum data that was recorded prior to the current calendar month. The data is loaded from the Chart Recorder Logs folder. This makes it possible to include older spectrum data when the Chart Recorder content is opened in a new Graph Window.

In the Graph Window, if the Spectrum panel is set to display the cumulative spectrum for an entire run, the the correct CPM values now appear under the respective histogram peaks. Previously these CPM values were inconsistent with the corresponding visuals.

When downloading RAD7 data to disk, the spectrum information is now obtained from the Chart Recorder Logs instead of being taken from the RAD7’s representation in program memory. This often makes it possible to obtain a true spectrum during a download procedure without first having to wait for the Chart Recorder to finish loading the previous runs.

In the Download RAD7 Data panel, a progress wheel now indicates when the program is gathering RAD7 status data used to determine whether the Include RAD7 Spectrum Data checkbox may be enabled.

It is now possible to include the Cumulative Spectrum data for each run when creating a Run Summaries Report.

When the Connection Settings panel becomes visible, the value in the Port Number field is no longer susceptible to change to an unexpected number.

When a DRYSTIK is selected, the Connection Settings panel no longer displays a Baud Rate pop-up menu. This is because DRYSTIKs always operate at a fixed baud rate of 9600.

Icons in the Main Window’s toolbar now remain selected as appropriate when the Connection Settings panel becomes visible.

If one or more Graph Windows contains unsaved changes to RAD7 data and the user quits the application but then cancels out of the dialog box asking whether to save the modified RAD7 data, the Graph Window content no longer disappears. This fixes a longstanding and elusive bug.

When opening a RAD7 record set containing raw record data as well as printer output data, any raw data line containing an incorrect number of data fields will no longer cause the printer output data associated with subsequent data records to be parsed incorrectly, and the error with the raw data line will be reported. This corrects a problem that affected RAD7 record sets with malformed raw data but intact printer output data.

A bug that caused radon in water calculation parameters to be misinterpreted has been fixed. This eliminates error messages stating that records contain “parameters that were inconsistent with the parameters of the other records in the same run.”

The File Menu commands Export RAD7 Data File, Export Column-Based Text File, and Export Column-Based Text to Clipboard are now accessible from within the Chart Recorder in the Main Window.

When exporting column-based data, negative temperature readings are now supported. This fixes a bug in which negative signs were omitted from exported figures.

After exporting a RAD7 data file on Windows, clicking the Open File button no longer causes a new instance of the CAPTURE application to launch. The exported data file now opens in the existing instance of the application.

In the Graph Window, if the Navigation panel has not been expanded and a menu bar command is used to set one of the graph axis scales to Manual, the scale editing controls no longer appear erroneously.

In the Graph Window, when a menu bar command is used to change the graph point style, the corresponding control in the Appearance panel is now updated correctly. This fixes a long-standing bug.

A bug that caused out of bounds exceptions when parsing the dates of RAD7 Chart Recorder data has been fixed.

The logic for determining where to insert gaps between line segments on the graph display has been improved. Gaps now appear wherever cycle numbers do not advance in linear ascending order.

The Combine RAD7 Data Files function has been updated to provide the same quality of user experience as the new Downsample RAD7 Data Files function.

In the Graph Legend, the square representing radon data points with unknown humidity levels now contains diagonal lines as intended.

There is now more distance between the the labels along the Y axis of graphs and charts.

The X and Y axis at the left and bottom edges of the graph image are now drawn thicker with respect to the graph’s scale factor. Previously they appeared thinner on higher-resolution displays.

A warning message now appears when CAPTURE launches if the computer’s clock is set to a date that is clearly incorrect.

When installing or disabling RADLINK, if a null character is unexpectedly received from the RAD7 (ASCII character 0, i.e. “NUL”), the data transfer operation is no longer interrupted.

The Windows and macOS versions of the CAPTURE application now contain digital signatures to validate their authenticity.

Version 5.7.1 (July 2019):

Radon Inspection Reports can now be previewed in real time as they are being configured. It is also possible to print a Radon Inspection Report directly from within the report configuration window.

When a Radon Inspection Report is saved, a message box now appears, indicating the report’s location on disk. Controls are provided for viewing and opening the report.

The appearance of exported Radon Inspection Reports has been improved, with clearer fonts and borders around each page region. A page break is now inserted before the table containing the full details for each cycle. Most reports will fit comfortably within two pages.

It is now possible to apply BA Spill Correction, RH Correction, and Forced SNIFF Mode to Radon Inspection Report data.

When a RAD7 data record has been recorded in Normal Mode but the RAD7 pump is operating in Grab mode, CAPTURE now accounts for both the A and C Window counts when calculating radon concentrations. This more closely emulates the behavior of the RAD7 itself, and it prevents CAPTURE from misreporting data in certain Grab-based experiments extending beyond 3 hours, at which point a RAD7 operating in Auto mode will have switched its operating mode from SNIFF to NORMAL.

Spectrum data is now preserved when combining multiple RAD7 Record Sets. If the record sets come from the same RAD7 and they share one or more identical data records, any overlapping spectrum data is now merged. If the record sets come from different RAD7s, overlapping spectrum data is now added together. The resulting spectra can be viewed in the Graph Window as either a bar graph, a cumulative histogram, or a per-record histogram.

When multiple RAD7 Record Sets from different RAD7 devices are merged, the resulting combined data set is no longer assigned a specific RAD7 serial number. When the data set is loaded into the Graph Window, the RAD7 section of the Statistics Panel is labeled “[Data is from Multiple RAD7s]”.

In the Combine RAD7 Record Sets dialog box, if a file name and location is chosen using the Select Location button, the user-specified file name will be retained subsequently.

The Graph Window now displays vertical axis lines at four-day intervals when appropriate, for example when one month’s worth of data is visible in the window. Previously the vertical axis lines were drawn at one-week intervals in the aforementioned scenario, and as a result the lines were spaced too far apart.

The graph lines and plotter arms on the Chart Recorder now animate more smoothly as the content slowly scrolls from right to left across the window in real time.

Chart Recorder data is now logged to disk using the R7CDT file format, so that the per-cycle spectrum data may be present in the logged data file. When the logged data is graphed, the spectrum histogram will be enabled.

When a RAD7’s Sniff Sensitivity is unable to be determined, the Apply Forced SNIFF Mode controls are now disabled in the Export Column-Based Text Window, the Run Summaries Report Window, and the Radon Inspection Report Window.

When the Export RAD7 Printer Data command is chosen, if none of the selected RAD7 records contain printer data, a message box now appears explaining that the operation can not be completed.

The default color for the graph line showing radon with high relative humidity is now bright orange, to distinguish it from the red Action Level line that appears on Radon Inspection Reports.

In the Navigation section of the Graph Controls Panel, if the user enters a number in one of the scale adjustment fields and then moves the cursor over the graph image while the scale adjustment field still has the focus, the user-specified scale value is no longer reverted to the previous value.

In the Log Window’s Network Connections tab, when the network data logs are cleared, the log entries now disappear immediately. Previously the entries would remain until the associated network connection entry was reselected.

If the Graph Window’s Spectrum Panel is set to display a bar graph showing the basic distribution of counts between windows A, B, C, D, and O, the bar representing the O window (210-Po) is now colored gray instead of black. This is done to indicate that it is a less important window, and that the height of the bar is an approximation (since it includes all counts outside the A through D windows, and not just the counts specifically belonging to the 210-Po window.)

The text at the top of the Graph Window can now display either the average concentration of the selected data points or the standard deviation of the selected data points. Clicking on the text toggles between these two figures.

If an internet connection is unavailable when CAPTURE launches, the application will no longer inform the user that a connection to the Durridge server was not able to be established. It is now presumed that the user already knows there is no internet connection and does not wish to be reminded.

When a connection is established to a RAD7 on a network and a response is received, the globe graphic on the RAD7 toolbar icon no longer disappears.

In the Run Parameters Window, it is no longer possible to enter negative values in the Big Bottle System volume parameter fields.

Version 5.7 (December 2018):

When the Chart Recorder is running, the program now automatically obtains spectrum data upon the completion of each RAD7 cycle. The spectrum data is saved to a file in the Chart Recorder Logs folder, which is accessible from the File Menu. Spectrum information can be included in RAD7 record sets and saved within RAD7 data files. This data can also be viewed in the Graph Window’s Spectrum panel.

The Spectrum panel in the Graph Window now contains buttons for toggling between three display formats: a Spectrum for the selected data points; a Cumulative Spectrum for the selected Run, and a Bar Graph for the selected data points. The first two of these options may not be available in all cases; it depends on how much spectrum information was able to be obtained by the Chart Recorder. The “Low Noise” Channels 1 through 80 are omitted from this display, but Channels 81 through 200, which encompass the relevant windows A, B, C, and D, are displayed in full detail whenever possible. The Bar Graph for the selected data points replaces the Synthetic Spectrum, which has been removed because it is potentially misleading and redundant.

The Spectrum Window is now titled the Chart Recorder Spectrum Window to distinguish it from the spectrum panel in the Graph Window. When opening the Chart Recorder Spectrum Window, the histogram representing the Cumulative Spectrum now appears immediately, without any delay during loading. The histogram image is updated automatically after each RAD7 cycle is completed.

When connecting to a RAD7 or DRYSTIK on a network, the Connection Settings panel now provides the option to manually specify the network port number. This makes it easier to communicate with an DURRIDGE instrument that is connected to a network via a serial to ethernet device server such as the Lantronix xDirect, or a serial to WiFi device server such as the Lantronix WiBox. The Automatic port selection option is still offered for use with conventional networked connections, in which the server is simply another computer running CAPTURE.

It is now possible to download RAD7 Printer Output using the Download RAD7 Data panel in the Main Window. The printer output can be obtained for any range of runs. Each Printer output record is obtained in the Medium Format, which includes CPM and CPM Uncertainty values for each window (A,B,C,D, and O). Run Summary information is also included. The data is saved to disk in a plain text file.

The Export RAD7 Printer Output function now includes the exact CPM and CPM Uncertainty figures for each window (A,B,C,D, and O) when this information is available. End-of-run summaries are also included.

When a data file has been exported or a report has been created, a dialog box now appears containing buttons for opening the newly created file or showing it at its location on the disk.

The Combine RAD7 Data Files Window now accepts drag-and-drop actions involving multiple RAD7 data files.

The Export Column-Based Text Window now includes a “Spectrum Channel Counts” checkbox, which makes it possible to include columns for each of the 200 spectrum channels in the exported output.

The number of Y axis labels that appear on graph and chart images is now determined based on the height of the image and the label scale. Previously Y axis labels were spaced too far apart or too close together if the image was very large or small.

The Chart Recorder Spectrum Window now contains Y Axis labels which increase in increments of 1, 2, 5, 10, and so on, with respect to the number of counts in the most heavily populated spectrum channel.

Radon in water results for Big Bottle System tests are now calculated accurately. This fixes a bug that was introduced in CAPTURE 5.6.7.

An “Aeration Efficiency” field has been added to the Big Bottle System configuration panel in the Run Parameters window. This makes it possible to account for an incomplete aeration. The aeration efficiency can be set to any value between 1% and 100%.

In the Big Bottle System configuration panel, choosing the “RAD H2O Bottle (250ml)” preset sets the Aeration Efficiency to 87.6%. This accounts for the incomplete aeration that occurs when the RAD7 is in WAT-250 mode aerating a 250ml water sample. Previously the “RAD H2O Bottle (250ml)” preset caused a concentration scale factor of 1.15 to be applied to the data.

In the Run Parameters Window, if the Radon Measurement Method is set to Big Bottle System and the selected data was recorded in WAT-40 mode, the system now calculates the correct Radon in Air and Radon in Water concentrations. Previously this approach could only be used for Big Bottle System tests recorded in other modes, such as WAT-250 and Sniff.

In the Big Bottle System configuration panel within the Run Parameters Window, the Brim-Full Water Loss and Head Space parameters, among others, can now be specified with greater precision, down to the nearest 0.01 ml. Previously these values were rounded to the nearest whole ml.

In the Big Bottle System configuration panel, choosing the “RAD H2O Bottle (250ml)” or “RAD H2O Vial (40ml)” preset now sets the Brim-Full Water Loss volume to 6.28 ml for the 250 ml bottle, and to 3.81 ml for the 40 ml vial. Previously these values were 6.14 ml and 3.60 ml, respectively. This change causes calculated Radon in Water concentrations to more precisely match the values originally reported by the RAD7.

CAPTURE can now calculate radon in water values for RAD H2O tests in which the water sample size is not consistent with the RAD7’s operating mode (either WAT-250 or WAT-40). This is done by setting the Radon Measurement Method to Big Bottle System and specifying the bottle size that was used (either 250 or 40 ml).

In the Run Parameters Window, when the Water Temperature Source is set to Fixed Temperature Value, the default temperature value is now set to 20 degrees celsius, instead of 25. This value matches the presumed water temperature for RAD H2O tests.

Improvements have been made to the system for handling data that arrives through a serial port, in order to eliminate the possibility that the functions for processing the arriving data will be invoked recursively. This recursion could result in the program reporting problems that did not really exist.

When a RAD7’s memory is full, an alert icon and accompanying warning message now appear in the Chart Recorder status bar.

The Chart Recorder now refreshes itself more effectively at the end of each cycle when the “RAD7 Printer Present” checkbox is not checked.

When opening Chart Recorder data in a Graph Window, any changes to the visibility of data lines in the Graph Window are no longer reflected in the Chart Recorder.

When the record run numbers are in the incorrect order in a RAD7’s memory, CAPTURE now advises the user to issue the Data Erase command to clear the RAD7’s memory at the earliest convenient opportunity.

When performing a manual download of data from a RAD7 without RADLINK, the user now has 60 seconds to initiate the data transfer using the Data Com command. Previously only 30 seconds were granted, and the time remaining was not accurately reported.

Version 5.6.8 (October 2018):

CAPTURE can now account for salinity when calculating radon in water measurements. Salinity is factored into the calculation based on the 2012 paper “Air−Water Partitioning of 222Rn and its Dependence on Water Temperature and Salinity”, by Michael Schubert, Albrecht Paschke, Eric Lieberman, and William C. Burnett. The Run Parameters Window is used to specify the Water Type, which may be either Fresh Water or Saline Water. If Fresh Water is selected, CAPTURE uses the standard Fritz Weigel formula to calculate radon in water values. If Saline Water is selected the new Schubert et al. formula is employed.

Graph smoothing has been improved. It is now possible for the value of a data point to be influenced by up to 14 neighboring points. The level of influence exerted by each data point is based on a gaussian distribution, with respect to the temporal distance of the point of influence from the point being affected.

CAPTURE no longer refers to a RAD7 Profile to obtain a RAD7’s sensitivity data, unless the profile is a user-created RAD7 Profile and its Sensitivity Source is User-Specified. This prevents CAPTURE from reverting to default sensitivity values when more accurate values can be calculated by examining the data file content. This problem only affected RAD7s with outdated versions of RADLINK, in which the Special GetCal command is missing.

When creating a Run Summaries Report, it is now possible to include columns containing the maximum and minimum radon concentrations in each run, as well as the standard deviation of the concentrations in the run. The average temperature and relative humidity of each run may also be included.

When exporting column-based RAD7 data, the exported concentration values may now be expressed using additional significant figures if desired. This option typically causes the number of significant figures in exported output to increase from 3 to 7.

The Download Data From All RAD7s feature now saves each RAD7’s records to a separate data file. The downloaded files now use the R7CDT format, and they contain RAD7 device data, printer output, and header information indicating the file creation date and platform.

It is now possible for CAPTURE to open downloaded RAD7 data files that contain printer output but no device information, or device information but no printer output. Previously it was necessary for both to be present in order for the file to load properly.

CAPTURE now issues a warning message when the High Voltage reading for a cycle falls outside the acceptable range. Previously CAPTURE only reported High Voltage issues when the High Voltage duty cycle exceeded a particular threshold.

CAPTURE no longer crashes when closing a Graph Window and then exporting data or creating a report using a dialog box that was associated with the closed window.

In the Run Parameters and Chart Configuration windows, it is no longer possible to specify a water temperature outside the range of 0 to 100 degrees Celsius.

In the Graph Window, it is now possible to display Error Bars even if the graph’s Line Weight is set to Hidden.

When the Chart Recorder is in use, the File Menu’s Run Parameters command changes to “Chart Parameters” and the command becomes enabled.

Version 5.6.7 (August 2018):

User-Created RAD7 Profiles can now be saved inside R7CDT data files. Associations between RAD7 Profiles and data sets were previously stored in the application preferences, but with the profile definition now embedded inside the RAD7 data file, it can be easily shared with other users.

It is now possible to retain the existing water temperature records in a RAD7 Record Set when editing its Run Parameters. Previously it was necessary to specify the source of the temperature data every time the Run Parameters were changed.

The expression of concentration and uncertainty values has been improved. The number of digits that appear to the right of the decimal point is now consistent between the concentration and uncertainty values. Additionally, there is no longer a strict arbitrary limit on the number of significant digits used to express concentration base values; the number is instead dependent on the uncertainty of the reading.

Radon concentrations are no longer miscalculated when Forced SNIFF Mode is applied to RAD H2O data. This addresses a bug that was introduced in CAPTURE version 5.6.3. Additionally, when the Radon Measurement Method for RAD H2O data is set to the Big Bottle System and the appropriate configuration preset is applied, the radon concentrations are now calculated correctly.

CAPTURE now calculates radon concentration uncertainties using an improved algorithm which accounts for D window spill. This produces uncertainty figures that closely match the ones reported by the RAD7 itself (notwithstanding any data correction that may be applied). Similarly the calculation of thoron concentration uncertainties now produces results mirroring that of the RAD7 itself.

When the records within a RAD7 data run are found to contain inconsistent user-specified parameters, a warning message now appears only if the inconsistencies are relevant, with respect to the chosen radon measurement method.

When the average Pump Current is reported for a RAD7 Record Set or for a selection of graph data points, only the records in which the pump was active are now factored into the average.

The RAD7’s pump mode is now listed in the Graph Statistics Panel alongside the Pump Current reading.

When a new version of CAPTURE is launched for the first time, it is now necessary to agree to an End User License Agreement (EULA).

In the Run Parameters Window, if a temperature value is entered with the unit set to Fahrenheit, it is now saved properly, and when the window is reopened the figure is now expressed using the equivalent value in the unit native to the Graph Window.

The temperature fields in the Run Parameters Window are now correctly populated when the Graph Window is set to the Kelvin temperature unit.

Support has been added for language systems that utilize nonstandard decimal separator characters that are neither points nor commas.

When exporting column-based data delimited with tab characters, CAPTURE now assigns the file the .TSV (“tab-separated values”) file name extension instead of .TXT. This makes it easier to import the data into spreadsheet applications.

Exported RAD7 data tables now contain only one row of cells for column headings. Previously two rows were used to accommodate long headings. It is now recommended that text wrapping be applied in spreadsheet applications to accommodate the full cell content.

A bug has been fixed that made it impossible to set the RAD7’s Mode to Auto using the Chart Recorder controls.

A bug has been fixed that prevented the average concentration of a selection of valid thoron data from being reported at the top of the graph window.

A bug has been fixed that caused the Ambient Air Radon Concentration pop-up menu in the Run Parameters window to snap back to the previous selection after being changed.

Version 5.6.6 (May 2018):

Support for language systems that utilise decimal commas (as opposed to decimal points) has been implemented. Previously the use of decimal commas interfered with the parsing of user input and saved files, and caused problems with the rendering of graph data. Now decimal commas appear as expected in editable fields, and they are also present in exported column-based data files.

The macOS version of CAPTURE is now a 64-bit application which is fully compatible with macOS High Sierra 10.13.

When the Graph Window’s Synthetic Spectrum is set to display a bar graph instead of a histogram, the heights of the graph bars now reflect the number of counts recorded in the respective window. Previously the heights matched those of the corresponding histogram peak, meaning the bar graph did not serve a unique function.

When a graph data point is recorded in Thoron Protocol (i.e. with the Mode set to ‘Sniff’ and Thoron set to ‘On’) this is now indicated on the graph data point label and in the Graph Statistics panel. If Thoron is set to ‘On’ but the Mode is not set to ‘Sniff’, the label will not include thoron. Previously data points recorded in Thoron Protocol were always marked as having been recorded in Sniff mode.

In the Graph Window, improvements have been made to the display of radon concentrations, record modes, and dates which appear under the cursor and at the base of each selection bar.

When a graph’s Radon or Thoron Concentration Scale is set to Automatic, the associated Y axis is now configured so that it accommodates the heights of any visible Error Bars.

When the content of a text field is selected in the Graph Navigation panel, the Edit Menu’s Copy Graph Picture command no longer copies the field content. Instead it copies the graph image as expected. The contextual Copy command that appears when right-clicking on text content can still be used to copy the text if desired.

When program windows are automatically resized and positioned on-screen, the program now places them with respect to the current display parameters, rather than the parameters that were in effect when the application launched.

When CAPTURE launches, if a RAD7 Profile stored in the application preferences file is found to contain invalid numerical properties it is no longer loaded.

A problem that caused the disappearance of the RAD7 Profile property controls in the Preferences Window has been resolved.

When multiple RAD7 data files are opened simultaneously, they are now loaded in alphabetical order by file name, and their names appear in that order under the Window menu.

If radon in water data is visible in the Graph Window, the selection average that is stated at the top of the window now displays the average radon in water concentration. Previously the average radon in air concentration was stated instead. A similar change affects thoron in water data.

Version 5.6.5 (March 2018):

The Preferences Window now features a revised RAD7 Profile Editor. Previously the BA and CB Spill Factors of a Calibration Generated RAD7 Profile could be edited, but now Calibration Generated RAD7 Profiles are no longer editable in any way. Sensitivities and Spill Factors can now be modified using an expanded User-Created RAD7 Profile editing interface.

When editing a User Created RAD7 Profile, it is now possible to set the CB Spill Factor Source to either “Obtain CB Spill Factor Automatically” or “Apply CB Spill Factor Manually”. It is no longer necessary to “lock” a manually entered CB Spill Factor to prevent it from being overridden by information obtained directly from the RAD7.

A bug has been fixed that caused the properties of certain types of RAD7 Profiles to be incorrectly updated if such a profile was selected in the Preferences Window while being manually assigned to an open RAD7 data graph.

In the Graph Statistics panel, a reported sensitivity or spill factor value is now marked with an asterisk (*) if the value was obtained from an applied RAD7 Profile which overrides and differs from any device information specified in the RAD7 data itself.

In the Graph Window, the data point information that appears under the cursor now contains relevant details when the mouse is moved over a RAD H2O Radon in Water data point. Previously this information was omitted if Radon in Air data appeared elsewhere on the graph.

A warning message now appears in the Run Parameters window when water temperature data is applied to a RAD7 record set and the time range of the water temperature data does not match that of the RAD7 record set.

When a Data Summary Report or a Run Summaries Report is created, it now opens in the default text editor application automatically. The report creation commands are now located in a submenu titled Create Report under the File menu.

Warnings about unrecognized property names in RAD7 data files are no longer added to the Program Log files. Such warnings could potentially consume a lot of space in the logs when the program loaded files containing outdated data.

When renaming a RAD7 Profile or Temperature Data Profile, CAPTURE no longer allows the same name to be used for more than one profile. A number is now automatically appended to the end of the duplicate profile name. If the duplicate name already concludes with a number, that number is incremented.

CAPTURE now displays the new DURRIDGE branding style on the splash screen and in the About box.

All user interface elements on the Main Window now support HiDPI/Retina displays.

It is now possible to check for updates to CAPTURE by choosing the Check for Updates command in the Help Menu (on Windows) and the Application Menu (on macOS).

The new Durridge company logo now appears in the CAPTURE application and on the CAPTURE macOS disk image.

Version 5.6.4 (September 2017):

Radon Inspection Reports may now indicate the Action Level on the included graph image. The Action Level is represented by a red horizontal line extending across the width of the graph.

It is now possible to include comments in Radon Inspection Reports. Comments are printed under the report summary, immediately above the graph image.

The formatting of Radon Inspection Report content has been modified to make better use of the available page space. The resolution of the included graph image has been increased by 50%, from 144 pixels per inch to 216 pixels per inch.

The Radon Inspection Report configuration window now includes an expanded set of options for selecting which records to export. The available choices are Records Selected on Graph, All Runs, Last Run, and Specific Run.

The operating mode of a RAD7 can now be reliably determined when the Flags byte indicates that it is set to WAT mode while not Sniffing. Previously this information was not always calculated accurately.

CAPTURE no longer reports an error when attempting to observe the Thoron sensitivity of a record in which Thoron is enabled but no accompanying printer output is available and the RAD7’s sensitivity can not be obtained from available device data.

The data entry fields in the RAD7 Profile Editor are now automatically updated to reflect sensitivity and spill factor information obtained from RAD7s. However this behavior can be overridden by entering custom sensitivity values and clicking the “Lock CB Spill Factor” checkbox in the Profile Editor.

When new RAD7 Profiles are generated, their sensitivity and spill factor values are now automatically assigned based on the available RAD7 device data. Likewise the sensitivity and spill factor values of existing RAD7 Profiles are now updated when new information become available, as long as those values have not been locked in the RAD7 Profile Editor.

The Cumulative Spectrum Window is now called the Spectrum Window. Its title excludes the word ‘Cumulative’ unless the associated RAD7 is capable of transferring the spectrum for the entire latest run, rather than just the current cycle’s spectrum. This capability is dependent on the RAD7’s firmware and RADLINK version.

Version 5.6.3 (August 2017):

A bug affecting the reported radon concentrations in RAD H2O data has been fixed. This bug was introduced in CAPTURE version 5.6.

CAPTURE can now reliably determine whether a RAD7 data record was recorded in Wat-40 mode or Wat-250 mode without having to make estimates based on the observed RAD7 sensitivity. Certain NORMAL and SNIFF mode records are no longer misidentified as WAT mode records.

CAPTURE can now determine whether Thoron mode was active in a RAD7 data record, even if printer data is not present.

The visibility of the Selection Slope Line can now be set to an intermediate state, in which the line only appears if the selection contains a series of data points that are relatively evenly distributed along the graph’s time scale. This prevents the slope line from appearing when a selection spans multiple unrelated data runs.

The Selection Slope Line is now reset when scrolling a graph using the scroll bars. The line and associated label are now confined to the graph content region, instead of being allowed to enter the bottom margin area.

The R7CDT file format has been streamlined to avoid repeating raw RAD7 output within data tags used to store printer output.

CAPTURE now displays a warning when a RAD7 record set contains records with unreasonable dates.

Double-clicking on a graph and then clicking again no longer causes the graph to zoom in and then immediately zoom back out.

Radon data graphs can now accommodate a wider range of record dates, up to 100 years.

The spacing of graph timescale labels has been improved at particular graph zoom levels. The graph timescale pattern indicating the AM/PM intervals along the horizontal axis now looks correct when viewing a very wide range of data on a high resolution display.

Deprecated controls have been removed from the Alerts panel in the Preferences Window.

Version 5.6.2 (May 2017):

When exporting Cumulative Spectrum data, it is now possible to specify whether to include the Channel Number, Energy Levels, and/or Window ID in the exported data. It is also possible to specify whether the exported fields are separated by Tab or Comma characters. In addition, column headings are now optional. The exported data may now be written to a file (either .txt or .csv format), or simply copied to the clipboard.

The Cumulative Spectrum Window is now a standard document window instead of a floating window, so it no longer necessarily overlaps and obscures other on-screen items. The window may be accessed using a menu bar command at any time, provided a RAD7 is present.

Cumulative Spectrum Window data is now reloaded only when necessary, making the program more responsive when switching between different RAD7s.

The Selection Slope Line now automatically appears at the proper angle based on a linear regression algorithm accounting for the locations of each selected data point. The endpoints of the Selection Slope Line may still be dragged manually to modify its slope if desired. A manually adjusted Selection Slope Line now appears in red to indicate that changes have been made.

The Selection Slope Line and its associated statistics may now only appear if the selection contains visible Radon In Air, Radon In Water, Thoron In Air, or Thoron In Water data points. The slope expression is labeled with ‘radon’ or ‘thoron’ based on the element scale used.

When the Selection Slope Line is reset, it now snaps to the slope of the primary visible graph line, which may be either Radon In Air, Radon In Water, Thoron In Air, or Thoron In Water. Previously the default Slope Line position was always based on the Radon In Air graph data, even if the corresponding graph line was not visible.

Chart Recorder logs are now saved in a more sophisticated format which includes RAD7 device data, run and cycle numbers, and other information. These logs take up somewhat more space on disk than the simpler ‘raw’ data logs which were recorded previously.

When viewing a RAD H2O data run on a graph also containing data measured without the use of a RAD H2O, the graph no longer displays Radon In Air data points for the RAD H2O run.

The RAD7 Group Configuration menu command is now fully functional. This command did not function properly in recent releases.

Thoron related graph statistics no longer appear in the Graph Window’s Statistics Panel if thoron data points are not visible on the graph. In cases where all thoron data is of questionable validity, these statistics now appear only if the user has enabled the thoron graph line and opted to display the questionable data.

The reported thoron averages for the entire data range and for the selected region now pertain only to the visible thoron points. Points that are hidden due to their questionable validity are excluded from the calculated averages.

If a RAD7 data file is opened and a Graph Window is already present containing the same file with unsaved changes, the contents of the window are no longer reset to the content of the file on disk.

The Save Graph Picture command now works properly on Windows systems when the Graph Label Scale is left unchanged at 1x. Previously the program failed to export images on Windows systems until the Graph Label Scale slider was changed.

The average radon and thoron concentrations reported at the top of the Graph Window are now stated more succinctly, allowing them to fit on smaller windows.

A user interface glitch has been corrected in the Windows version of the dialog box that appears when an update is available.

Version 5.6.1 (May 2017):

CAPTURE now consumes less CPU power while idle. Previously the Main Window used processing power unnecessarily because it refreshed repeatedly even when nothing was happening.

When exporting Cumulative Spectrum data, each line is now labeled with a Channel Number, Energy Levels, and a Window ID. Items are separated by Tab characters, so they will appear in separate fields when pasted into a spreadsheet.

The Cumulative Spectrum now renders properly on HiDPI/Retina displays. Previously the spectrum content was incorrectly sized and blurred on high resolution displays.

The Save Graph Picture command now works properly. This command stopped working in CAPTURE version 5.6.

The formatting of the sensitivity unit labels in the Sensitivity Unit Converter Window has been corrected.

Version 5.6 (April 2017):

CAPTURE now supports HiDPI (“Retina”) displays on Windows and macOS. All text and graph images take advantage of high resolution displays, with four times greater pixel density.

When saving a graph picture, it is now possible to choose from between three preset image sizes: Small (800 x 600 pixels), Large (1600 x 1200 pixels), and Graph Window Size. Large graph images use a default label scale of 2x for added clarity.

Humidity Correction, Forced SNIFF Mode, and BA Spill Correction may now be applied to the built-in sample RAD7 data files.

Humidity Correction may now be applied to RAD H2O radon in water data. In the previous version Humidity Correction only had an effect if the Radon Measurement Method was set to Radon In Air, RAD AQUA, or Water Probe.

Custom RAD7 Profiles may now be applied to RAD H2O radon in water data. Previously the user-specified sensitivities in custom RAD7 Profiles had no visible effect on RAD H2O data recorded using WAT250 or WAT-40 protocols.

When viewing RAD H2O radon in water data, the Radon In Air graph line is no longer visible. Corresponding Radon In Air statistics are also hidden.

When a new version of CAPTURE is available, the latest changes to the program are now listed in the Update Available Dialog.

When exporting column-based RAD7 data to a text file or to the clipboard, entries in the Units Byte column are no longer followed by a premature line ending. Data will now be formatted properly when viewed in a spreadsheet application.

An alert icon now appears if a RAD7’s clock is set to the wrong time of day. Previously the alert only appeared if the RAD7’s clock was set to the wrong day entirely.

When Chart Recorder data has been obtained but is found to contain problems that prevent it from being displayed, an explanatory message now appears along with a button for viewing a detailed list of errors in the data set.

The Graph Statistics Panel now devotes more space to any warning messages related to the data point nearest to the mouse cursor.

CAPTURE now checks for updates more successfully over slow Internet connections.

Version 5.5.5 (February 2017)

The Durridge CAPTURE Preferences file is now written to disk properly when the program exits for the first time. A bug was introduced in CAPTURE version 5.5.4 that prevented the preferences data from being written (but allowed the data to be re-written).

Version 5.5.4 (February 2017)

If the text of a RAD7 Data File includes a comment with an opening tag but no closing tag, or if the closing tag comes before the opening tag, CAPTURE no longer hangs while attempting to open the file.

The Meaningful Thoron Threshold is no longer reported as zero for any records with no thoron counts. This resolves a bug that was introduced in version 5.5.3.

RAD7 data files containing records from prior to the year 2000 are now interpreted properly.

The program no longer has problems parsing certain figures expressed using scientific notation.

The RADLINK disabling procedure now works properly on RAD7s with a variety of different firmware versions.

The online CAPTURE Help is now stored in a different location for each version of CAPTURE.

CAPTURE Version 5.5.4 is intended to be the final Windows XP compatible version, and in the future it will be offered in a standalone edition as an option, without automatic updates.

Version 5.5.3 (January 2017)

A new Edit menu command, Snap Selection To Nearest Runs, makes it possible to quickly select all of the run or runs containing the selected records. If no records are selected, this command selects the run containing the data point nearest to the cursor. Once the selection has been snapped to the appropriate runs(s), the graph window zooms in or out to show only the selected data.

The program is no longer likely to crash when the application error dialog box appears and the Do Not Show This Message In The Future button is clicked. After clicking this button, redundant error messages will no longer be recorded in the Program Log File, preventing disk space from being wasted.

When the program reports that a data file does not contain any valid records and the user clicks the Show Details button, a program error no longer occurs. Instead a window appears listing each problem with the data set. A maximum of 1000 items appear in this list, even if the data file is afflicted with more than 1000 problems.

The program now evaluates large data files and determines whether they can be parsed more quickly, particularly if the file name extension is known to be unsupported, for example if it is a .JPG or .DOCX file.

When right-clicking on a graph display or Chart Recorder surface for the first time, all of the available contextual menu items are now enabled. Previously it was necessary to right-click twice before certain commands became enabled.

When configuring Run Parameters, relevant error messages are now displayed in a streamlined version of the Error Message Dialog. For example if the Radon Measurement Method is set to Big Bottle System and the data was recorded in a protocol that is not compatible with that system, an alert message will appear explaining the problem.

It is now possible to select multiple RAD7 data files using the Open dialog box when graphing and combining data.

The Export Cleaned Up Data button is now enabled in the Error Message Dialog only if one or more data records were unable to be parsed.

When humidity correction is enabled on a graph, the Meaningful Thoron Threshold is now affected to the same degree as the thoron concentration.

The average Relative Humidity of a selection is now reported in the Graph Statistics panel even if the Relative Humidity graph line is hidden.

The Statistics panel now displays a “File Created By” label plus the name and version number of the program used to create the data file. This replaces the “CAPTURE Version” label and a corresponding version number. This allows the program to indicate when a data file was created using a different software program.

The CAPTURE documentation is now available exclusively via the Durridge website, ensuring that the Show CAPTURE Help menu command works reliably on macOS.

If the application is closed immediately after launching, it no longer records an empty preferences file to disk.

It is no longer possible to rename a RAD7 or DRYSTIK that was added manually until after a connection has been established, because doing so caused the program to crash. For the same reason it is no longer possible to connect to a RAD7 or DRYSTIK until a serial port has been selected.

Version 5.5.2 (August 2016)

It is now possible to download a user-specified range of RAD7 data runs, in addition to all runs, a single run, or the latest run.

The Combine RAD7 Data Files window now supports drag and drop. RAD7 data files or entire folders full of data files may be dragged into the window’s list box and combined.

The system for creating Run Summary Reports has been redesigned, resulting in improved report formatting and improved handling of situations that previously produced errors.

If a record in a RAD7 data file is found to contain parameters that are inconsistent with the parameters of the other records in the same run, the problem is resolved and the user is alerted.

CAPTURE application log files and Chart Recorder log files are now stored in \Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\ on Windows, and in /Users/UserName/Library/Application Support on the Mac. The application log files are now organized into folders by year. A different log file is created for each day the program is in use. Previously a separate file was established for each session. Files now contain more extensive headers. Log files older than one month are no longer purged.

CAPTURE now checks to see whether a data file has an invalid file name extension before attempting to open it. This prevents the program from stalling while attempting to parse large unsupported files such as Photoshop images or PowerPoint documents.

A menu command has been added for showing the CAPTURE program logs.

The CAPTURE Preferences file is now titled Durridge CAPTURE Preferences.txt. Previously this file was titled CAPTURE.ini.

The formula for determining which graph points to connect with line segments now produces better results when run numbers are out of chronological order.

When initiating a manual RAD7 data download operation, CAPTURE now times out after 60 seconds. Previously there was a 30 second limit before timeout.

Exported Run Summaries files that are formatted using comma delineation now use the .csv file name extension. This makes it easier to open them directly in spreadsheet programs.

Version 5.5.1 (May 2016)

When a RAD7’s status is obtained, CAPTURE now checks to see if the RAD7 is configured to report radon concentrations using an unsupported concentration unit. If necessary the concentration unit is then changed to pCi/L , and the change is reported in the Application Log. This ensures that concentrations and sensitivities can be obtained reliably.

CB Spill Factor values may now be obtained from the RAD7 if the device has the latest version of RADLINK installed. In these cases is no longer necessary to manually specify the RAD7’s calibrated CB Spill Factor value in the Preferences Window’s RAD7 Profiles Editor. If this value is entered manually, it may be either “locked”, preventing it from being overruled by information obtained from the RAD7, or left “unlocked”, allowing it to be overruled in cases where such information is able to be obtained from the device.

CAPTURE now supports Temperature Data Files in which the year, month, and day values of date expressions are separated by dash characters. Previously only slash characters were supported as year, month, and day separators, and this created compatibility problems with more recent versions of the EasyLog USB software.

A new built-in Temperature Data Profile labeled “Lascar EasyLog USB YMD” has been established to accommodate the latest Lascar EasyLog USB data format, in which dates are expressed in the Year-Month-Day format. Earlier versions of the Lascar software are supported by the existing “Lascar EasyLog USB DMY” profile.

Built-in Temperature Data Profiles may no longer be edited or removed. When CAPTURE launches, any built-in profiles that were previously deleted will be restored automatically.

A new Tools Menu command can be used to shift the dates of a Temperature Data File and then re-save the file in any of CAPTURE’s built-in temperature data formats.

Temperature Data Files expressing times using a 12-hour clock format are now parsed successfully. Previously times between 12:00 AM and 1:00 AM were interpreted as occurring between 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM.

Exported RAD7 printer output now contains accurate temperature values when expressed in the Fahrenheit unit.

When necessary, thoron sensitivities are now calculated by analyzing the content of RAD7 printer output data. This is only possible when the Thoron option is enabled in the Setup menu.

When thoron concentrations are calculated based on estimated RAD7 sensitivity values, a notification now appears, along with recommendations on how to achieve more accurate thoron readings.

Sensitivities derived from RAD7 Profiles are now identified as such in the Graph Statistics Panel.

If a RAD7’s humidity sensor is faulty, humidity readings are now reported as “[Unknown]” in the Graph Statistics panel.

CAPTURE’s built-in sample RAD7 data files may now be opened using a command in the File menu. Water temperature data will be made available for each sample data set automatically when the Run Parameters Dialog is opened and the Radon Measurement Method is set to a radon in water accessory such as the RAD AQUA.

When opening a graph, the Radon Measurement Method is now automatically set to RAD H2O for any runs that are found to have been recorded in WAT mode.

Separate Radon in Air and Radon in Water graph lines may now be viewed for RAD H2O data. The Radon in Air concentrations are calculated based on the RAD7’s known or assumed SNIFF sensitivity, while the Radon in Water graph line remains based on the pre-computed concentration figures provided by the RAD7.

Radon in Water graph lines now appear automatically if Radon in Water data is present, even if the Radon in Water checkbox was unchecked during the previous session. This is intended to prevent users from mistaking Radon in Air graph data for Radon in Water data.

When Chart Recorder data is logged to disk, it is now saved in either the R7CDT format or the R7RAW format, based on the user’s choice. Previously R7CDT data could only be saved if R7RAW data was being saved as well, but this is approach is no longer necessary as a means of preserving the RAD7’s raw data output because the raw data content is present within the R7CDT file.

Version 5.5 (March 2016)

CAPTURE now includes Save and Save As commands in the File menu. The Save command becomes available when Run Parameters are changed. When a graph window containing modified data is closed, the user is prompted to save the changes. Saved R7CDT data files now store graph parameters that were previously maintained in the application preferences.

When a Graph Window opens, the top panel of the window now immediately displays the average concentration of the radon in the data set. It no longer contains a prompt asking the user to specify the Radon Measurement Method.

Radon data parameters may now be applied on a per-run basis, rather than being applied to an entire data set, and therefore the Graph Parameters Dialog is now known as the Run Parameters Dialog. An individual run may be selected and assigned a Radon Measurement Method of either Radon In Air, RAD AQUA, RAD H2O, Water Probe, or Big Bottle System. Clickable labels now appear over each run on the graph, providing easy access to the controls for editing the corresponding Run Parameters.

RAD7 sensitivities are now obtained using the Special GetCal command, which is supported in newer versions of RADLINK. These sensitivities are saved in the RAD7 data file and allow for the precise determination of radon and thoron concentrations. When these sensitivities are not able to be retrieved, CAPTURE calculates them by analyzing other information within the file.

RAD7 Device Data and configuration information is now stored on a per-record basis, rather than a per-file basis. This makes it possible for CAPTURE to retain device information during Export and Combine operations.

If CAPTURE detects that a RAD7 is configured to express concentration values using incompatible concentrations units (CPM or Total Counts), the user is now prompted to switch the RAD7 to a compatible unit before downloading data. Additionally, the RAD7 Units Setup dialog box no longer permits the user to select an incompatible concentration unit type.

If a RAD7 data file contains concentration values stored in an incompatible unit type and the RAD7’s sensitivity figures are unknown, the user is prompted to specify these sensitivity figures so that concentration values can be calculated. Once this calculation has been done, the data file can then be saved and subsequently reopened without incident.

RADLINK may now be installed and removed using the RADLINK Operations command, which is available in the Tools menu. RADLINK versions 253, 301, and 311 are supported. This feature allows users to restore RADLINK if it has been lost, and to upgrade a RAD7 to a newer version of RADLINK, which is required to obtain comprehensive device sensitivity data.

The Tools Menu now contains an option for shifting the content of a RAD7 Data File by a certain time interval. Each data record’s time stamp is shifted forwards or backwards by a specified amount. The modified RAD7 record set is exported as a new RAD7 Data File.

The Tools Menu now contains a Concentration Unit Converter and a Sensitivity Unit Converter. These are used to convert user-supplied concentration and sensitivity values between four available units: Bq/L, Bq/m3, dpm/L, and pCi/L.

In the Chart Recorder, when viewing data from a RAD7 Group consisting of multiple RAD7s, the devices must now be synchronized to within one quarter of their common Cycle Time in order for their respective data points to be combined and averaged.

If a RAD7’s clock is incorrect, the right edge of the timeline on the Chart Recorder will now show the RAD7’s reported date and time, rather than the current actual date and time. This prevents the lines extending from the most recent data points to the pen tips from advancing in the wrong direction.

The total number of counts associated with the data point nearest to the cursor is now reported in the Graph Statistics panel.

The Graph Statistics panel now displays an alert icon next to the RAD7 calibration date if the RAD7 had not been calibrated within one year of the measurement. Similarly an alert icon appears if RADLINK needs to be updated or if the RAD7’s date and time settings are incorrect.

Shaded regions indicating excessive High Voltage Duty Cycle readings now start at the beginning of the affected cycle, rather than at the end of the preceding cycle. This prevents large shaded regions from appearing between runs, except where appropriate.

Clicking the Forced SNIFF Mode, Correct For Humidity, or Correct For B to A Spill checkbox now causes the highlighted selection average and Slope Line to automatically snap to the appropriate position.

When thoron uncertainty values are unknown, the data is now written to disk using the proper notation format, preventing information from being lost.

If the Check for Updates option is disabled in the Preferences window, CAPTURE will no longer display a warning message when Internet access is unavailable.

In the Run Configurations Dialog, the specified Temperature Delay is now applied only if the Water Temperature Data Source is set to Temperature Data File.

The formatting of printed graphs including statistics has been improved, particularly for graphs printed in a landscape orientation.

Machine-generated foreign language translations have been removed from CAPTURE. Grammatically correct English content will appear instead. It is no longer possible to use the program’s Preferences Window to specify whether to enable foreign language translations. If the system is configured to display Chinese characters, these will appear as they did previously, since they have been translated by hand.

RAD7 Data files may now include Special SprOn and Special SprOff responses in addition to the expected content. These portions are stripped out during parsing. This allows CAPTURE to read data files assembled outside of CAPTURE using typical serial port output.

The macOS version of CAPTURE is now code-signed, so computers with default Gatekeeper security settings will no longer refuse to launch the application.

Version 5.4.7 (January 2016)

CAPTURE now supports the installation of RADLINK version 311.

Version 5.4.6 (October 2015)

CAPTURE now includes a Selection Slope visualization tool. When a Graph Window is visible and the Show Selection Slope checkbox is checked, a Selection Slope line will appear, spanning the distance between the Selection Bars. If the endpoints of the Selection Slope Line are dragged, the reported slope value is updated in the Statistics Panel. This value is expressed as a change in concentration per unit of time, for example “0.803 (pCi/L)/Hr”. The time unit may be specified by the user, or it may be set automatically based on the selection range.

The appearance of printed graph images has been improved. The graph is now displayed at a higher resolution and labels are rendered in a larger font for improved readability. The statistics that appear under the printed graph image now include information on the Selection Slope Line, Radon in Water, Thoron, and Thoron in Water, but only if the associated lines are are present on the graph image.

The system for rendering the graph legend has been optimized, resulting in significant performance gains, particularly on Windows, and particularly when multiple graph lines are visible.

The graph’s grid line spacing now changes at more frequent and regular intervals as the graph is zoomed in and out, ensuring that a reasonable number of background grid lines appear at all zoom ratios.

The placement of graph elements, including axes, legends, and labels has been improved, particularly when the graph image is rendered using a nonstandard scale factor, as when printing or saving the image to disk.

When the Radon Measurement Method for a data set is set to Radon in Air, the Radon in Air graph line is now made visible, and the Radon in Water graph line is now disabled.

If a value of one million or greater appears in a text field in the Graph Controls Window, it will use the letter M to represent Millions. Previously such non-numeric characters were ignored when parsing user-supplied values. Now this type of notation is interpreted correctly.

Custom graph concentration scales may now be set to no higher than 100 million units, and no lower than -100 million units. This applies to the Radon, Thoron, Temperature and Humidity graph scales.

When user-specified numeric values are written to the program’s Preferences file, the positive or negative nature of the value is now recorded properly. Previously when negative values were used to specify graph scales and water temperature offsets they were converted to positive values when saving.

If a RAD7 loses its calibration settings, CAPTURE now warns the user that the device’s data is unreliable and that the RAD7 should be returned the DURRIDGE for service.

It is now possible to specify the desired graph label scale when exporting a graph image. The chosen scale dictates the minimum allowable image dimensions. The PNG file name extension is now added to the desired file name under all circumstances.

When opening a Graph Window, it now appears fully on-screen, even if the most recently viewed graph window was positioned partially off-screen.

The system for cascading multiple Graph Windows has been improved on Windows OS, with respect to each Graph Window’s title bar and menu bar height.

Version 5.4.5 (August 2015)

A Reset Zoom Level command has been added to the Graph Window. This command zooms the graph all the way out. It can be accessed using the keyboard shortcut Control-0 on Windows, and Command-0 on Mac OS.

Support for the Big Bottle System has been improved. It is now possible to select preset configurations based on Revision C of the Aerator Cap design. This applies to both the Glass Jug System and the Soda Bottle System.

The Statistics Panel now contains additional information about the RAD7 data file, including the CAPTURE version number used to download the data, the platform used (Windows or Mac OS X), and the file creation date.

On Mac OS X it is now possible to drag any file type onto the CAPTURE application icon, and the program will attempt to open it. Previously only .R7cdt, .r7raw, .cdt, and .raw files could be opened in this manner.

Administrative tools have been developed for more user-friendly thoron calibration procedures.

RAD7 Data file icons now appear at high resolution on both Mac OS X and Windows.

Version 5.4.4 (June 2015)

CAPTURE no longer freezes when displaying graphs on systems in which the date settings have been configured in such a way that the day of the week is excluded from the formatted expression of the date. This was a long-standing bug that could lead to infinite loops while drawing the grid lines across the graph background, but only with certain zoom settings. It affected standard graph windows as well as the Chart Recorder, most frequently in Windows 8.

A Tools menu has been added to the menu bar. It provides access to new utilities such as the RAD H2O Radon In Water Calculator, and the Terminal Window. The RAD H2O Radon In Water Calculator computes Radon In Water concentrations based on user-supplied Radon In Air and Water Temperature Values. The Terminal Window provides an interface for manually issuing serial commands to any device, including RAD7s and DRYSTIKs.

CAPTURE is no longer localized into German, Arabic, and Hebrew. German text did not fit well in the program’s user interface (luckily the majority of German speakers are literate in English.) Arabic and Hebrew texts produced problems related to the right-to-left nature of these languages, and suffered from issues with string manipulation.

Texts in the remaining languages have been shortened where necessary to conform to the spatial requirements of the user interface. This affected Spanish, French, Italian, Norwegian, and Swedish.

The Chart Recorder zoom level is no longer reset when the RAD7 status is refreshed.

Version 5.4.3 (May 2015)

Exported Counts per Minute values for windows B, C, D, and O are now accurate.

The Chart Recorder no longer becomes stuck in an endless refreshing cycle when a RAD7’s runs were recorded out of chronological order.

The reliability of RADLINK related utility functions has been improved.

Version 5.4.2 (May 2015)

Total Counts and Counts Per Minute fields for individual Spectrum Windows (A, B, C, D, and Other) may now be included in exported RAD7 data.

Downloaded R7CDT data files containing incomplete printer output data or missing RAD7 identification information are now parsed more effectively. Any RAD7 device information such as the serial number and calibration date are now retrieved if available.

When printer output data is unavailable for some records, the user is notified of the issue.

Exporting column-based text data using comma delineation produces a .csv text file which is directly compatible with Excel and other software.

The Clock Setup dialog box now allows the desired year to be entered. This dialog box is accessed from within the Chart Recorder.

The Macintosh version of CAPTURE no longer crashes when right-clicking on a graph or chart.

When a dialog box appears on Windows OS, the most commonly used button is now assigned the focus, so that it can be triggered by pressing the Enter key.

Version 5.4.1 (January 2015)

CAPTURE now scans for devices more thoroughly at each appropriate serial port and baud rate.

When RAD7 data is downloaded, any errors in the data are once again reported properly. These error messages are not displayed when applying changes to graph configurations. Note that previous versions of CAPTURE will be unable to open files downloaded using CAPTURE 5.4.1.

R7RAW files may now contain comments, which start with /* and end with */. These comments were previously supported only in R7CDT files.

Downloaded RAD7 data is now saved in a format that retains any data errors so that the errors can be reported and accessed during future sessions. Such errors are removed only when data is manipulated through exporting or combining operations.

The user interface for installing and removing RADLINK has been improved, and potentially problematic operations are no longer supported. CAPTURE now supports operations involving the latest version of the RAD7 firmware.

CAPTURE now displays the hardware revision number in addition to the firmware version number for DRYSTIKs running firmware version 1.2.1 or newer.

DRYSTIK Firmware can now be updated successfully. This addresses a regression that was introduced in CAPTURE version 5.3.7.

The Download Latest Run feature now works correctly. This addresses a regression that was introduced in an earlier version of CAPTURE.

Problems have been addressed in the statistical figures that may be included when printing a graph image. These graph statistics are now visible on printouts by default.

Windows are restored to the same sizes and positions they were left in. Previously they could reappear in the wrong locations on the Windows OS, with the title bar off the top edge of the display.

When a device is detected, its icon now appears in the toolbar immediately and is automatically selected.

If a RAD7 data file is found to have been created using a newer version of CAPTURE than the one being used, the user is notified and encouraged to update CAPTURE to the latest version.

CAPTURE no longer creates RAD7 Profiles associated with the device serial number 0001.

Version 5.4 (December 2014)

The Mac OS version of CAPTURE is now a Cocoa application. This brings several advantages including improved performance, anti-aliased graph content, and windows that are resizable from all directions. In preparing CAPTURE for the Cocoa framework, several memory leaks and circular dependencies were identified and resolved.

After using the Graph Parameters Window to set the Radon Measurement Method to RAD AQUA, RAD H2O, Big Bottle System, or Water Probe, the Radon In Water graph line now automatically becomes visible.

Values written to the preferences are now expressed using higher precision, ensuring that close numbers are not treated as identical. This change resolves a problem in which the program did not differentiate between very similar dates and times.

When exporting a RAD7 data file containing combined data records, the exported records are now sorted chronologically, rather than by record ID number.

The Zoom Slider no longer produces erratic results. This addresses a problem that was introduced in CAPTURE 5.3.9.

When scrolling the graph or translating a selected region horizontally, the graph’s Y axis scaling animation now runs for a particular amount of time, rather than for a particular number of frames, improving performance on slower computers.

RAD7 status refresh operations can now be safely interrupted by Download and Relay operations.

If the Main Window is suddenly closed while a RAD7 status is being refreshed, CAPTURE now cancels the status update more gracefully, informing the RAD7 that it should cease sending data.

TCP data transfers are now reported in the Log Window without visual glitches.

RAD7s are now listed in order by serial number in the toolbar and in the Log Window.

Version 5.3.9 (December 2014)

When Chart Recorder data is opened in a Graph Window, it is now possible to configure the graph, specifying the Radon Measurement Method and other parameters.

RAD7 connections are no longer as easily disrupted. When a RAD7 fails to respond correctly to a command, CAPTURE attempts to re-issue the command several times, at fixed intervals, before giving up and reporting that the connection has been lost.

Certain kinds of RAD7 records are no longer incorrectly identified as having been recorded in Thoron mode.

Terminology shown in the user interface has been changed for clarification; for example ‘Change Radon Source’ has been changed to ‘Specify Radon Measurement Method’.

Visual corruption no longer occurs on the graph after zooming in on a selection of RAD7 data, then bringing up the Graph Parameters dialog box.

Version 5.3.8 (December 2014)

Double-clicking on a RAD7 data file no longer brings up the Graph Parameters window and an error message no longer appears. This resolves an issue that was introduced in version 5.3.7.

Version 5.3.7 (November 2014)

The Graph Parameters configuration dialog no longer appears automatically when a graph is opened. Instead a more streamlined panel appears at the top of the Graph Window, stating that the radon source is currently set to “Radon in Air”, and prompting the user to either confirm or change the radon source.

CAPTURE no longer attempts to calculate the SNIFF sensitivity when the Window D counts overwhelm the Window A counts. In these situations the default SNIFF Sensitivity value is used. This in turn affects the calculated Thoron Sensitivity, which is usually set to a certain portion of the SNIFF Sensitivity.

Records recorded in Thoron Mode are now identified as such by CAPTURE. This resolves a bug introduced in Version 5.3, in which thoron mode indicators in RAD7 Data files were not properly parsed.

If a RAD7 is overdue for calibration, it’s toolbar is now marked with an alert symbol. The alert symbol also appears near the Calibration Date listing in the Graph Window’s Statistics Panel.

The serial I/O code has been refined to prevent multiple occurrences of commands being sent to RAD7s unnecessarily.

Version 5.3.6 (October 2014)

CAPTURE no longer consumes excessive memory when the Main Window is left open for an extended period of time.

Toolbar icons are no longer prone to disappearing in the Windows version of CAPTURE.

Cumulative spectrum data may now be saved to a text file, using the Export Spectrum Data button in the Cumulative Spectrum Window.

The peaks in the Cumulative Spectrum Window are now rendered with greater precision.

The system for evaluating the count distributions between windows A,B,C,D, and O has been enhanced.

RAD7 software administration tools have been made more user-friendly.

Version 5.3.5 (September 2014)

After a point is plotted on the Chart Recorder, the pen is now kept level with the last reading until at least three new counts have been detected, or until the following cycle is at least one third of the way to completion. This reduces the occurrence of unreasonable concentration predictions.

The Chart Recorder new advances in real time, instead of only advancing in 5 minute intervals. (Scrolling will only be perceptible however if the cycle time is short and the chart view is fully zoomed in).

Chart Recorder data is now obtained immediately upon the completion of each cycle. This resolves a bug introduced in an earlier version of CAPTURE.

The Thoron and Thoron in Water pens are now shown on the Chart Recorder only if the RAD7 is currently in Thoron mode. Previously these pens were visible if any points already on the chart were recorded in Thoron mode.

The Chart Recorder’s Y axis scales now change dynamically based on the range of concentrations, temperatures, and humidity values within the currently visible data.

Data sets containing only one record can now be displayed on the Chart Recorder. Therefore a point now becomes visible as soon as the first cycle of a test has been completed.

The DRYSTIK status panel no longer confuses the Date of Manufacture and Lifetime Pump Usage values.

When a DRYSTIK is idle, CAPTURE now accurately reports the state of the DCC Output/Internal Pump switch. Previously the state of this switch was only properly reported while the DRYSTIK was live.

Version 5.3.4 (August 2014)

The DRYSTIK user interface now fits properly in the main window, even when the window is set to its smallest size.

Before rebooting a DRYSTIK or updating its firmware from within CAPTURE, the device is stopped. This speeds its reboot time and prevents the program from timing out while waiting for the DRYSTIK to respond.

On small displays, the Main Window is no longer positioned with its title bar above the top edge of the screen. Resolutions as low as 1024×768 are now properly supported.

The vertical scale of the Chart Recorder now accommodates radon, thoron, temperature, and humidity readings that are still in progress, and these figures are now reported immediately when the chart appears. White space no longer appears below the horizontal axis.

RAD7 connections are no longer lost in certain situations.

Version 5.3.3 (August 2014)

Problems that caused CAPTURE’s user interface to become unresponsive while downloading RAD7 data on Windows have been resolved.

The Run Selection pop-up menu no longer reverts to its previous state when making a selection.

RAD7 detection now occurs more quickly and is less processor intensive. While a scan is occurring the program remains more responsive, and the associated progress bar provides a more accurate indication of how much time is remaining.

When a RAD7 operating at 1200 baud is detected, CAPTURE now offers to increase its speed to 9600 baud instead of to 19200 baud. The associated dialog box no longer reappears unnecessarily after rescanning for RAD7s.

The Download Data From All RAD7s command now works properly.

The Main Window can now be resized to fit on smaller laptop displays.

The appearance of the Chart Recorder button panel has been improved, particularly on Windows.

CAPTURE now checks online for DRYSTIK firmware updates instead of relying on an embedded file. Going forward, outdated versions of CAPTURE will still be able to install the latest version of the DRYSTIK firmware onto ADS-3 and ADS-3R devices.

Version 5.3.2 (August 2014)

The Export RAD7 Inspection Report feature now works properly.

When a graph opens, the selection bars are now positioned so as to encompass all the data points.

In the Graph Window, double-clicking will zoom the view in only if a subset of the data points are selected.

Stability improvements have been implemented in the Chart Recorder.

Multiple RAD7 data sets can now be successfully combined even if they are not being saved to disk.

The Show Data File command now reveals the location of the file associated with the current graph and also selects it in the Windows Explorer or Mac OS X Finder.

Changes have been made to the Mac OS X version of CAPTURE for future deployment as a Cocoa application.

Version 5.3.1 (July 2014)

RAD7 data downloading operations now proceed successfully even if the device’s configuration settings have not yet been fully obtained. Previously downloads stalled if attempted immediately after the RAD7 was discovered, before the configuration information was available.

In the Big Bottle System configuration interface it is now possible to specify a custom value for the internal volume of an included DRYSTIK.

The algorithm used to calculate the uncertainty in the average of a selection of data points is now identified at the top of the graph window.

When a RAD7 is reconnected its main window configuration preferences are reset accordingly, causing any previously specified download destination to be blanked out. This ensures that RAD7 data is not downloaded to a file containing the name of a different device.

The option to relay RAD7 data to a remote computer now becomes available only after the device’s full status has been obtained. This prevents relaying operations from interrupting necessary preliminary communications.

When connecting to a RAD7, its status information can now be obtained more rapidly, because fewer commands are issued instructing the device to redirect printer output to the serial port.

Version 5.3 (July 2014)

CAPTURE can now communicate with DRYSTIK models ADS-3 and ADS-3R. It is possible to monitor the status of a DRYSTIK, control its operations, and configure its user profiles. DRYSTIK firmware can also be updated from within CAPTURE. As with RAD7 communications, DRYSTIK communications may be relayed over a local network.

CAPTURE now remains fully responsive when RAD7 statuses are being retrieved. The revised status update procedure is considerably less CPU-intensive.

The sensitivity values displayed in the RAD7 Profile editor in the Preferences Window are now calculated based on the content of the front most graph window or chart recorder.

Upon completion of RAD7 serial operations that involve redirecting infrared printer output to the serial port, any ensuing output is now sent back to the printer. Previously CAPTURE only restored the printer operation if the RAD7 had been configured as such prior to the serial operation.

Device communication failures are now handled in an improved manner. When CAPTURE fails to receive an appropriate device response after four consecutive attempts, the connection is closed and the user is prompted to reenter the device’s connection settings.

The Big Bottle System configuration interface now includes a control for selecting which DRYSTIK model is being used, if any, and the preview diagram is updated accordingly. DRYSTIKs using different NAFION tubing lengths contribute differently to the internal air volume of the overall apparatus, and this affects the calculated Radon In Water concentration values.

TCP network connections may now be monitored in the Log Window, under a new tab alongside the existing Application Log and Serial Ports tabs.

The Include Supplementary Data option has been removed. Supplementary data is now included automatically whenever a download procedure is initiated from a RAD7 capable of two-way communication.

Dial-up modem communication features have been removed due to underutilization.

Visual glitches affecting the Windows version of CAPTURE have been resolved.

Version 5.2.9 (April 2014)

Problems connecting to large numbers of RAD7s have been resolved.

CAPTURE can now more reliably communicate with RAD7s via a local area network.

RAD7 icons in the toolbar are now shown in the correct order according to serial number.

Application stability has been improved on Windows.

Version 5.2.5 (March 2014)

CAPTURE now stores internal data in a more robust format, reducing the potential for errors when performing such operations as combining RAD7 record sets.

Uncertainties are now calculated properly when based on the scatter of points. Previously results were too great by a factor of two.

When zooming out of graphs, CAPTURE now renders data sets without graphical glitches.

Version 5.2.4 (February 2014)

Several improvements have been made in the analysis of Big Bottle System data, including the addition of a Brim-Full Water Loss property, as well as corrections in the logic used to determine whether data came from a RAD H2O involving WAT-250 or WAT-40 readings. Big Bottle System analysis can now be performed using files recorded in WAT mode, with the necessary SNIFF Sensitivity values being derived automatically.

Support for RADLINK version 3.0 has been added. In this version of RADLINK, the Special ComSpec command outputs spectrum data for the entire run, rather than just the current cycle.

A Cumulative Spectrum Window has been added. It contains a histogram displaying the results of the Special ComSpec command. Support is included for RAD7s containing both RADLINK 2.5 and 3.0.

Calculations requiring knowledge of the RAD7’s internal volume are now performed with greater accuracy.

RAD7 commands may now be issued manually while status updates are underway.

Minor graphical and usability enhancements have been added, such as an alert icon appearing when downloaded data is to be saved over an existing file.

Version 5.2.3 (December 2013)

When reporting the uncertainty of a selection, large figures are no longer truncated.

The Graph Legend can now be positioned on any of the four corners of the Graph Window or Chart Recorder.

Version 5.2.2 (October 2013)

It is now possible to display a Meaningful Thoron Threshold region for water-based graph data. Previously the Meaningful Thoron Threshold applied only to Thoron in Air.

The Export Column Based Text operations now allow for the inclusion of Meaningful Thoron Threshold data for air and water.

The algorithm for computing the Meaningful Thoron Threshold has been refined.

Expressions of whole numeric values will no longer conclude with decimal points. This will make it easier for statistical analysis software programs to identify exported values as numeric content.

Exported column-based values now use the proper field delineator when C/A count ratios are included.

CAPTURE no longer issues duplicate error reports when downloading and graphing data.

Any RAD7 data that can not be parsed is no longer included in exported R7RAW or R7CDT data files. Problematic data is however saved to disk as it is being downloaded, so that it may be properly accessed.

Minor rendering problems have been resolved in the Chart Recorder display.

Version 5.2.1 (September 2013)

Reported thoron readings are now based on computed values, even when RAD7 printer output containing explicitly stated thoron concentrations is available. This makes it possible in all cases to correct thoron readings for known sensitivity and CB spill values.

Reported thoron uncertainties now more closely match those values seen on the RAD7 printer output. Greater uncertainties will be seen for low thoron concentrations.

A problem involving the prohibition of thoron sensitivity values of less than 0.1 cpm/(pCi/L) has been addressed. This limit is now scaled with respect to the concentration unit used, allowing data sets whose thoron concentrations are expressed in units other than pCi/L to accept reasonable changes to the thoron sensitivity.

The C:A Count Ratio is now properly reported for selections. Previously this was reported as the average of the C:A count ratios of the selected data points. Now this value is calculated as the ratio of the sum of all C counts to the sum of all A counts comprising the selection.

Uncertainty figures are no longer offered for C:A Count Ratios, and undefined ratios in which no A counts were recorded are now reported as “∞:1”.

While listening for incoming commands to relay from a remote computer to a connected RAD7, CAPTURE now disables download operations and RAD7 status updates. Previously such operations could compromise the program’s responsiveness to incoming commands.

CAPTURE now does a better job of determining whether records were likely recorded in GRAB mode, and uses this information to determine whether thoron data is valid and should be visible on a graph. (Records recorded in GRAB mode contain invalid thoron data.)

Version 5.2 (September 2013)

CAPTURE can now obtain water temperature data directly from a Lascar EL-USB-TC temperature logger while downloading RAD7 data or loading an existing RAD7 data file. This makes it faster and easier to display data from the RAD AQUA, Water Probe, and Big Bottle System. Once temperature logger data has been obtained, it may be saved to disk as a text file usable by CAPTURE and other applications. This feature is supported on Windows only.

Radon inspection reports may now be exported from CAPTURE. These reports are saved in HTML format and include graph images plus user-supplied information on site conditions and testing parameters. The visual content of the file is embedded directly inside the HTML. Since no separate image files are involved, the report has the benefit of portability typical of PDF files.

The Export RAD7 Data command now presents the option to include or exclude supplementary data, when such data is available. Previously it was not possible to exclude supplementary data when it was present in the file being graphed. Now that this is possible, any exported content can be made to adhere to the well documented formatting standard used by the RAD7 when it responds to Data Com or Special ComAll commands.

The calculation of radon concentration uncertainties has been improved, especially in cases where very few or no counts were recorded. These figures now match the output provided by the RAD7, even though they are calculated independently.

Records recorded in WAT40 or WAT250 modes now produce warnings when graphed using the Big Bottle System as the Radon Source.

The Big Bottle System graphics seen in the Open Data File dialog have been updated to show Durridge’s new aerator design.

The logic used to calculate the minimum meaningful thoron threshold has been improved.

The Chart Recorder’s Y axis now scales to accommodate the points in the selected View Range.

RAD AQUA and Water Probe concentrations are once again listed accurately when humidity correction is applied.

A bug which caused RAD H2O data to be identified as radon in air data has been fixed. As a result CAPTURE now properly interprets data files that were recorded in WAT250 and WAT40 modes.

Version 5.1.1 (June 2013)

Radon concentration uncertainties are now calculated with respect to the fundamental source values provided from the RAD7, allowing for more accurate reporting of values corrected for factors such as humidity and B to A Spill. The calculation of thoron uncertainties is handled in the same fashion, with more accurate results.

It is now possible to install CAPTURE as an English-only application on Windows. When moving from a multilingual installation of CAPTURE to an English-only installation, it is necessary to first uninstall the existing version before running the latest CAPTURE installer.

CAPTURE now prompts the user to apply B to A Spill Correction only if doing so would produce a substantial difference in reported radon concentrations.

Version 5.1 (May 2013)

The system for managing RAD7 Profiles has been significantly improved. Now RAD7 Profiles may store NORMAL and SNIFF sensitivities, overriding the RAD7’s calibrated sensitivity. Profiles are now divided into two groups: those obtained from RAD7s, and those created by the user.

Previously fatal program errors are now reported in a dialog box, and the user is prompted to close the application when convenient.

Version 5.0 (February 2013)

The Chart Recorder now supports RAD7 Groups, which are sets of RAD7s designated by the user whose data is averaged and displayed as a single graph. If the RAD7s are synchronized properly, CAPTURE makes it easy to visualize their combined output and obtain highly certain radon concentration data in real time.

The Chart Recorder now supports the display of Thoron for any records recorded in Thoron mode. Radon in Water, Thoron in Water, and Water Temperature graph lines are available for data recorded using the RAD AQUA or Water Probe. To facilitate the display of the Radon in Water and Thoron in Water graph lines, the Water Temperature may be specified as either a fixed temperature value or as an offset of the RAD7’s recorded Air Temperature.

RAD7 data files using unsupported concentration units such as Counts Per Minute or Total Counts are now able to be parsed and graphed. CAPTURE may require inputting the RAD7’s Normal and SNIFF Sensitivity if these values are unable to be obtained from the data itself. Once these values are provided, radon concentrations can be determined. The Chart Recorder remains unable to display data recorded in unsupported concentration units, but ample information is provided on how to correct the situation.

In the Preferences Window, the RAD7 Profile editor now displays sensitivity information for the selected RAD7 Profile based on any open graphs that use that profile. Previously this sensitivity information was based on the content of the top graph window, and this would sometimes provide misleading information.

The Chart Recorder now downloads needed runs in a more efficient and robust fashion, accounting for anomalies such as empty data runs and records out of chronological order. The Chart Recorder has also been improved graphically, and its axes now scale more appropriately based on the full range of available data. Chart settings are now maintained in the program’s preferences.

The visual representation of the setup has been improved, and it now supports multiple bottle sizes and drying tube types. Warning messages are provided where appropriate.

When opening RAD7 data files, it is now possible to set the Water Temperature Source to the Air Temperature values recorded by the RAD7, offset by a specified amount. This is appropriate for measuring radon in small containers of water that quickly warm to room temperature, or a continuous flow of known temperature differential.

The spectrum display is now rendered accurately for selections involving very high numbers of counts in windows A, B, C, D, and O.

In the graph display, if printer output is unavailable for a record, and the first record’s record number is greater than 1, the Run and Cycle numbers of the point nearest to the cursor are now listed as [Unknown]. In such cases Run and Cycle number estimates are no longer provided, avoiding misleading statements.

RAD7 profile names are now listed in alphabetical order in the preferences window.

In the Chart Recorder, when the View Range is expanded, additional runs are obtained from the RAD7 as needed to fill the increased available space.

The Chart Recorder pens are now positioned more accurately in the middle of cycles, accounting for the results of Test Com operations.

The Chart Recorder now includes a Data menu including Erase, Renumber, and Delete commands.
